Abdominal sonography
Ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs
Ultrasound (sonography) is an imaging procedure for examining the abdominal organs (abdomen), which is low-risk, non-invasive, painless and radiation-free. It is user-friendly, readily available and can be performed quickly.
Procedure of the examination
For optimal viewing conditions, you must have fasted for at least 4 hours (the air swallowed while eating and drinking makes it difficult to assess the ultrasound images). Ultrasound can be used to assess the position, size and structure of the internal organs. Gallstones, for example, are a typical and fairly common finding in ultrasound examinations.
Sonography is completely painless and you can follow the examination directly on the monitor.
The examination takes about 30 minutes, including pre- and post-discussion.
